FSK loves exploring sacred sex, the spiritual connection created out of really intimate, really good, loving sex. Found in recent research is the Karezza Method - a set of guidelines for sex, written by the first women to graduate from medical school in the US - Alice B. Stockham, MD, who also happened to be a Quaker. In her book, “Karezza, Ethics of Marriage”, she writes of her belief in “a theory of conjugal life, in which there is a love communion between husband and wife from which results a mastery of the physical”. Her writing inspires a sense of romance and respect, for the self and the act. Dr. Stockham’s writing includes the preparation for the act of love, spiritually:
The law of Karezza dictates thoughtful preparation, even for several days previous to the union. Lover-like attentions and kindly acts prophesy love’s appointed consummation. These bind heart to heart and soul to soul. There should be a course of training to exalt the spiritual and subordinate the physical.
